Crest Considers Concessions on Beach

By Deborah McGuire

WILDWOOD CREST — The borough’s beach concession rental contract is scheduled to expire on Dec. 31, 2011. To that end, members of the Borough’s Board of Commissioners discussed the possibility of including additional items to be added to the list of what can be sold. Currently the beach concession stands rent beach chairs, umbrellas and flotation devices.
The current rental fee is $50,000 per year for the borough’s six concession stands. Over the past 25 years contracts have varied in length from three to five years.
“It has to be a realistic contract,” said Mayor Carl Groon. Along with adding items, “this is our opportunity to add to the minimum bid.”
“I don’t want to see the beach become too commercial,” said Commissioner Don Cabrera.
No decision was made; however the Commissioners will look at other communities’ practices.
“We need to really think this through,” said Groon.
