WILDWOOD CREST – Crest commissioners approved $400,000 from the capital improvement fund to purchase a private lot along New Jersey Avenue. The borough plans to use the land as a parking lot, in part of its redevelopment plans for the New Jersey Avenue business district.
The lot, 5900 New Jersey Ave., near Crocus Road, is one of five the borough plans to use for two parking lots that would be added during the major renovations to the area.
“Two down, three to go,” said Mayor Don Cabrera, referencing the one lot the borough had already acquired and the three others it still needs to complete the projects.
So far, property owners have been negotiating with the borough, but eminent domain was not ruled out as a last resort if the borough and the three remaining owners can’t strike a deal, Cabrera said.
Other lots may also be acquired using eminent domain to complete separate facets of the project, said Cabrera.
A public meeting will be held focusing specifically on the New Jersey Avenue project once social distancing guidelines are relaxed, according to town officials.
