By Press Release

ED. NOTE: The speaker’s name was removed from this article per their request.

OCEAN CITY – April 22 at 8:30 a.m., through a traffic safety grant obtained by the Ocean City Police Department Traffic Safety Unit in cooperation with the South Jersey Traffic Safety Alliance, a NJ resident  will discuss his experience of being hit by a reckless teenage driver and moving on from the tragedy. The resident was the victim of a car crash four years ago that changed his life forever. His face is disfigured, he is now blind and he has almost no sense of taste or smell because of a teen’s reckless driving.
All junior and senior students will hear his message in an assembly which coincides with April-National Distracted Driving month. Statistics show that texting and driving cause 23 percent more accidents with more than 3,000 annual teen deaths in the U.S. from texting, and resulting in 300,000 injuries. Texting while driving is now the number one reason teen drivers die. The resident has spoken statewide to over 100 high schools since recovering from this crash. Any questions regarding the event can be forwarded to the Ocean City Police Traffic Safety Unit Supervisor, Sergeant Brian Hopely (609)525-9136.
