On April 2, the Cape May County Department of Health (DOH) reported 16 new COVID-19 positive tests in the county, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 49. 11 of the county’s 16 municipalities have at least 1 confirmed case.
Lower Township has the most active cases with 7 followed by Middle Township and Avalon, each of which have 5. Of the 49 total cases 13 are reported as recovered, leaving 36 active cases in the county. According to the state COVID-19 Dashboard daily report, Cape May County is one of only two counties in the state to have no reported deaths.
The 16 new cases listed for April 2 include 8 males and 8 females. Ages range from a high of 79 to a low of 31 with a mean age for the new cases of 60 years old.
The DOH reminds the public that residents of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut should refrain from non-essential travel for 14 days as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control.
County officials urge individuals to remain in their primary residence and practice social distancing.
