CREST HAVEN – A bid just under $4.2 million won MJJ Construction LLC of Atco the contract Sept. 26 for third-floor renovations to the Cape May County Superior Court courthouse on North Main Street.
County Engineer told freeholders that four bids, separated by about $600,000, were submitted for the project.
Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton lauded AnnMarie McMahon, director of Facilities and Services and Clerk of the Board Elizabeth Bozzelli because they “held tough” on the project. He said that court officials at one time had escalated the project to $6 million. “I was not popular in those days,” said Bozzelli.
“We told them it wasn’t going to go that way,” added Thornton.
In other actions the board:
* Appointed Mary Dozier, provider, and Carol Haig, member-at-large, to the county Human Services Advisory Council with terms that started Oct. 1, 2017 and that will end Sept. 30, 2020.
* Awarded a $220,072 contract for engineering services to Remington and Vernick Engineers, Inc. to oversee the railing replacement on Townsend’s Inlet Bridge.
* Approved adding $626,000 in federal reimbursement to the Sea Isle Boulevard road project from Garden State Parkway to Ludlam Thorofare.
* Amended an agreement with Millville Rescue Squad, which operates transport services for patients at Cape Regional Medical Center, has been acquired by Inspira Health Network. The county will continue to allow the squad to access motor fuel at the county’s pumps during declared states of emergency.
* Approved an agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Readjustment Counseling Services to use office space in the Social Services Building for county veterans.
