COURT HOUSE – May 24: Cape May County reported 11 new COVID-19 cases today. Long-term care facilities accounted for six of them, and the remaining five were community-based.
Dennis Township had six of the cases, and five were associated with a long-term care facility. Lower Township accounted for four cases, with the last in Woodbine.
There were no reported individuals removed from quarantine, and there were no fatalities today.
The county total for positive cases since the first March 18 is now 579. Of those, 276 individuals are off quarantine, 131 cases remain active, and there have been 47 fatalities.
The state-wide counts continued to improve. Officials announced 1,065 new cases and an additional 52 deaths. The fatalities due to COVID-19 in New Jersey now total 11,133. Total state cases are 154,154.
Hospitalization numbers continued to decline. The state’s 71 acute-care hospitals reported 2,857 patients, down from 8,084 April 14. Of those hospitalized, 760 require intensive or critical care, while 639 are on ventilators.
Gov. Phil Murphy has signed an executive order allowing recreational campgrounds to reopen.
Murphy added that reopening daycare centers is essential to restarting the state’s economy.
“Daycare is at or near the top of our list,” Murphy said. The governor provided no timetable for reopening daycare centers, but said it would be “sooner than later.” New Jersey’s daycare operations have stopped since April 1.
