CREST HAVEN – Freeholder E. Marie Hayes and the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders recognized 11-year-old Juliette Loftus of Margate, Sept. 10. Loftus nominated the Cape May County Zoo in the “Our Children Making Change” program that resulted in a donation of $3,346 being made to the Cape May County Zoo.
Hayes said, “Our Children Making Change is geared towards children ages 5 to 15 years old. This year, one hundred participants raised over $20,000 by performing chores. The money raised was divided amongst six non-profit entities with our Zoo being one of them, thanks to Juliette.”
The following was Juliette’s nomination of the Cape May County Zoo in her own words:
“This year for Our Children Making Change, I would like to nominate the Cape May Zoo. This amazing zoo has over 85 acres of exhibits and there are over 250 types of mammals, birds, and repitles. When you go to the Cape May County Zoo you don’t have to pay them a penny and it is open 364 days a year. The zoo has many conservation areas which protect the animals from becoming extinct. With the money that we raise through our bake sales, lemonade stands, yard sales and car washes, we can help all the animals so that we can enjoy them and all of the future children can enjoy them.”
Our Children Making Change is a way for children of all ages to contribute to charities in their communities through raising money, by performing age appropriate chores. It is an opportunity for children who are too young to volunteer to become active participants in their community. During the past five years, the organization has raised more than $205,000 for charity.
Children from all over New Jersey are welcome to participate in the program. For more information about Our Children Making Change, please email Laura Dulac, Founder/President at ourcmc@aol.com.
