CREST HAVEN – The county agreed to submit an application to the state Department of Environmental Protection to be included in a project to create dunes along Delaware Bay in Green Creek. By unanimous agreement Oct. 28, freeholders hope to “reestablish a healthy sustainable bay dune environment,” according to the resolution.
The project cost of $262,555 would include a local contribution of $62,555 with $200,000 coming from the DEP. That agency received $3.44 million from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation under the Hurricane Sandy Coastal Resiliency Competitive Grant Program to build ecological solutions to coastal community hazards.
Seek Bike Lane Grant
At the same meeting, the board approved application to the state Department of Transportation Local Aid Bikeways Program to improve the Seashore Road and Ferry Road and to install bike lanes south from that intersection to Cape May Canal Bridge.
The resolution noted that grant funding is provided for bicycle facilities and networks during the present economic conditions that many county and local governments experience, when few financial resources are available to address those needs.
It also restated the county’s desire to “work with partners to expand the bicycle network throughout our region to promote alternative transportation opportunities.”
Any funds received “will only be used for the construction of the proposed bikeway project” the document states.
