CREST HAVEN — A grant application was submitted by freeholders to the Homeland Security Grant Program. The $228,051.85 proposal would apply for the period between Sept. 1, 2018 and Aug. 31, 2021.
According to a Sept. 6 release, these dollars in the past have gone to such projects like converting the county from VHF radio system to the new 700MHz state system, organizing and supplying the RUST (Regional Urban Search Team) with equipment and training, and modular vehicle barrier systems to prevent vehicle ramming at large public events.
“We at the county are always looking for ways to enhance safety for our residents,” stated Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton. “This grant in the past has been so important in funding needed projects for our team.”
The grant is administered through the Office of Emergency Management and authorized by the county Working Group.
Cape May County OEM Director Martin Pagliughi and Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland are co-chairs of the working group. They have monthly meetings with public safety members from the county and municipalities for local emergency planning discussions and the projects they will use the grant for along with planning for future projects.
“This grant helps fund important projects that really make a difference when we need it the most,” stated Pagliughi. “We appreciate the support the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness has provided in the past and hope to continue this great relationship in the future.”
