County Pays Tribute to Fallen Police Officers

CREST HAVEN — Law Enforcement Memorial Day was observed by police veterans and recruits, and county law enforcement officials on Monday with wreaths placed at the Public Safety Training Center monuments.
Chief Robert Matteucci, president, of the Cape May County Chiefs of Police Association welcomed the gathering under blue skies.
Rev. Steven Rapposelli, of Our Lady of Angels Church, Court House gave both invocation and Benediction.
Assemblyman Nelson T. Albano, (D-1st) represented the state legislators at the event.
Freeholder Director Daniel Beyel spoke on behalf of the governing body.
Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Sheriff Gary G. Schaffer addressed the gathering, which included members of the 30th Basic Class for Police Officers and police officers, family and friends.
The most solemn of the morning was the reading of the names of fallen officers.
They were Officer Harry E. Shores, Ocean City Police Department, Chief Philip DeSantis, Woodbine Borough Police Department, Officer Michael Cullinane Sr., Sea Isle City Police Department, Officer David C. Douglass Sr., Lower Township Police Department, Officer Eugene Miglio, Wildwood Crest Police Department and Trooper Bertram Zimmerman, New Jersey State Police, Troop “A” Tactical Patrol Unit.
Wreathes were placed by the 30th Basic Class for police officers, Policeman’s Benevolent Association locals from Ocean City and Cape May County and Cape May County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7.
Members of the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Ceremonial Detail rendered a gun salute and Taps was played.
