County Park Fees Increase: More to Tie the Knot, Go to Camp

Couples planning to exchange their wedding vows in the Cape May County Park Gazebo in Swainton will have to pay $50 more than in the past. The new fee that started Jan. 1 is $150 for two hours in accordance with a schedule approved by the County Park Advisory Board Dec. 5 and freeholders Dec. 27.

SWAINTON – Be prepared to dig deeper to use some of the Cape May County Park facilities and services in 2017.
Freeholders approved the fee increases by resolution Dec. 27. Rates went into effect Jan. 1. They had been approved by the County Park Advisory Board Dec. 5. The rate schedule had not changed since 2004.
The largest increase is for rental of the gazebo in the pond which will be $150 for two hours compared to the present $100. The venue is a popular one for couples who desire a unique setting for their exchange of nuptial vows.
The well-attended summer zoo camp for children will rise to $120 for the half-day, weeklong program, an increase of $1 per hour to $6 from $5. It was previously $100.
Also popular among children is the Adopt-an-Animal program. Both options will rise.
Option 1, which includes a photo, fact sheet, and adoption certificate, will increase to $40 from $35.
Option 2, which includes all of Option 1 plus a stuffed animal, will be $60 from the present $50.
Pavilion rentals will increase, with the fee based upon the number of persons using the facility. From one to 50, it’s $80, up from $60, for 51-75 it’s $100, previously $90, and $130 for 76-100, formerly $120. The hours of operation are from 7 a.m. until dusk.
Buses will be charged $80 per bus per day, up from $60.
Commercial mini-vans/buses are $40 per vehicle, up from $30.
Guided tours will cost $20 per person with a $50 minimum. Under age 3 are free. The former rate was $15 for 12 and under and $10 for those 3-11 years old. Under age 2 were free with a paying adult.
