CREST HAVEN – A new step has been taken towards open government and to make it easier for Cape May County residents to serve on various boards and commissions in the county.
Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton announced in a release that an online application would be placed on the county website to allow residents a quicker way to apply.
Cape May County has several boards and commissions that assist various facets of county government. The new application will ask residents for up to three boards and commissions on which they are interested in serving, as in some cases vacancies might not come up for over a year.
“We want residents to have more accessibility to our government, and this is another step to open up the government process,” stated Thornton.
Any resident who wants to apply can go to the county website, capemaycountynj.gov, and under the “How Do I” tab click “Apply for Appointment to Citizen Advisory Board.” Residents can fill out the application completely online and upload any supporting documentation.
This addition marks another change since Thornton become freeholder director to open the decision-making process in the county.
“We now have a work session that is open to the public and more discussion on measures we are voting on than any time during my history on the freeholder board,” stated Thornton. “It is our job to make it easier for people to have a voice in their government.”
