COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) hosted a class for hospital and healthcare organizations as part of a series of disaster preparedness classes funded by the Office of Homeland Security.
The two-day curriculum taught by instructors from DHS/FEMA National Training Program and Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service’s National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center (TEEX/NERRTC) offered hospital and healthcare professionals instruction in the fundamentals of disaster preparedness.
The two-day course hosted by OEM, in cooperation with Homeland Security, Texas A & M TEEX Center and the Townbank Firehouse, welcomed 26 healthcare professionals who are charged with the operation of the most significant healthcare facilities in this County.
The course focused on the fundamentals of preparedness processes for individuals who are responsible for ensuring the recovery and execution of healthcare services during a high –consequence or catastrophic event.
“The professionals who attended this class learned what it takes to ensure the resiliency of their facilities and the continuation of healthcare services for the county’s residents and visitors in the wake of a disaster,” explained Director of OEM Martin Pagliughi.
“Attendees representing Cape Regional Medical Center, Crest Haven Nursing Home and AtlantiCare learned how to safeguard the sustainability of their facilities and organizations during all types of disasters,” Pagliughi added.
The Disaster Preparedness program for hospitals and healthcare organizations was taught by the experts from Texas A&M TEEX Center who specializes in the critical preparation of emergency responders. OEM also sponsored a course in disaster preparedness with the TEEX Center in April, 2014 for emergency services, law enforcement and security personnel.
