County Holds Additional Flu Shot Clinics

Cape May Court House – Freeholder Gerald Thornton today reminded Cape May County residents that they can still get a flu shot at the Cape May County Department of Health this month. The Health Department is located at 6 Moore Road in Cape May Court House (Exit 11 off of the Garden State Parkway).
Flu shot clinic dates have been set for residents of all ages to get a flu shot on Wednesday, November 17th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and Monday, November 22nd from 2 to 5 p.m.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone over 6 months of age get an annual flu shot. At the November 17th, and 22nd clinics both the standard-dose and high-dose flu shots will be available for seniors 65 years and older. FluZone High-Dose is the only vaccine developed specifically for seniors. “The high-dose vaccine is a stronger version of the standard flu shot that produces a greater number of antibodies, which is what the body uses to fight off viruses,” said Thornton. The standard-dose flu vaccine is available at no cost; the high-dose vaccine is available at no cost for seniors that have Medicare Part B as the primary payer. People, who don’t have Medicare Part B as the primary payer but want the high-dose vaccine, can make a cash payment of $40. A receipt will be provided that can be submitted to the Replacement/Advantage plan for possible reimbursement.
For all flu clinics, persons with an allergy to eggs, latex, or Thimerosal or persons who have been told by a doctor that they have had Guillain-Barre syndrome need a prescription from their physician to receive a flu vaccine.
