The Cape May County Veteran’s Bureau assists veterans and their dependents with the application process for benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and other federal and state agencies.
They orchestrate the issuance of interment memorial markers and grave flags for Cape May County; and oversee the Cape May County Veterans Cemetery including the organization of the Memorial and Veteran’s Day Services at the cemetery.
Some of the assistance provided is in the following areas:
1. Compensation – a disability that was incurred or aggravated by the military. VA Form 21-526 would be completed and submitted to the DVA along with DD Form 214 and medical documentation. For more information contact http://www.vba.va.gov/bln/21/compensation.
2. Non Service Connected Pension – a disability not incurred or aggravated by the military, under the income limitations set by the DVA. VA Form 21-526 would be completed and submitted to the DVA along with DD Form 214 and medical documentation. For more information contact http://www.vba.va.gov/bln21/compensation.
3. VA Healthcare – Cape May VA Clinic is a satellite primary care facility associated with the Wilmington VA Hospital. Veterans can receive assistance with the application process at our office or obtain information at http://www/va/gov/healtheligibility.
4. Education – assistance with the various educational benefits available to veterans or their dependents can be obtained at our office or at http://www.gibill.gov.
5. Insurance – life insurance change of beneficiaries, proceeds of insurance, etc., can be applied for at our office or at http://www.va.gov/miscellaneous.
6. Application for lost/misplaced service records can be applied for through our office by completing Standard Form 18 or by contacting www/archives.gov.
7. Awards/Medals – medals, awards, citations etc., for period of service can be applied through our office along with a copy of DD Form 214 or equivalent or by contacting http://www.archives.gov/st-louis/military-personnel/public/awards-and-decorations.html.
Cape May County Fare Free Transportation provides transportation for our county veterans and their dependents. DD Form 214 is required to apply, and applications can be obtained at http://www.capemaycountygov.net.
Veteran’s Photo Identification Cards can be obtained through the Cape May County Clerk’s Office. Applications must be made in person and documents required are DD Form 214 or equivalent, and proof of Cape May County residence such as New Jersey Driver’s License, New Jersey Non Driver ID or Voter’s Registration Card.
