COURT HOUSE – Looking for low cost vaccines? Senior care and referral services? Counseling and behavioral health care? Support groups?
All of this information and more is now available online on the Department of Health’s website: cmchealth.net.
The Department of Health works with community partners throughout Cape May County to produce a comprehensive and current Public Health Community Resource Directory.
Freeholder Gerald Thornton announced Wed., Aug. 3 that these resources are online, in addition to the hard-copy directory that is also available. “For people that have access to the Internet, this offers a one-stop shop to find out about public health resources and programs that are available in our county,” stated Thornton in a release.
“To get to the online directory, go to cmchealth.net, and click on Public Health Resources under the heading ‘In Your Community,’ said Kevin Thomas, county health officer.
The directory is interactive and organized by content area – you can click on one of the topics, ranging from cancer programs to women’s health, and see a list of resources on that topic. “We hope that by using the resource directory, people will find out about programs and resources that they didn’t know were available,” added Thomas. “We have a lot of public health services in Cape May County that aren’t known to everyone who can benefit from them.”
As an example, under Maternal Health, there are six resources that offer services in family planning, supplementary food programs, childbirth education, prenatal and postpartum care, adoption, and foster care. Each entry has a description of the program and how to get more information.
“Although the online directory is a wonderful resource for many people, we recognize that not everyone has access to the Internet,” said Thornton. Hard copies of the Public Health Community Resource Directory are available at the Department of Health, in county libraries, municipal halls, and at the Cape May County and Wildwood Chambers of Commerce.
Those who are members of an organization in Cape May County that provides public health services and want to have these services included in the Public Health Community Resource Directory, or if individuals would like multiple copies of the directory, call (609) 465-1200 or e-mail bb2@njlincs.net.
