NEWARK – U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-NJ) May 2 applauded the announcement that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded a combined $6.65 million in federal grants to 42 local organizations across the state which provide housing and supportive services for hundreds of homeless individuals and families each year.
Continuum of Care Program grants included two Cape May County entities:
2009 Cape May County Shelter, Care Project, $45,982 and Cape May County Shelter, Care FY2013, $10,883
These competitive grants were awarded through HUD’s Continuum of Care program and will support new projects to provide permanent supportive housing and rapid re-housing strategies for those experiencing homelessness.
“While ending homelessness is a national priority, it is only through the innovative, tireless work of these local organizations that we can make real progress toward reaching that goal,” stated Menendez, Ranking Member of the Senate Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development. “These federal grants are critical to supporting programs that work in both increasing access to safe and reliable short-term housing solutions and in moving homeless individuals and families into permanent housing.”
“As a former mayor, I have seen firsthand how critical federal grants like this are to supporting local programs battling homelessness and the impact they have in helping communities throughout our state,” stated Booker. “We must remain committed to creating pathways of opportunity for all New Jerseyans in order to lift up the most vulnerable among us and end homelessness once and for all.”
