WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens Bob Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-NJ) announced $3.8 million in grants from the Federal Transit Administration to improve bus facilities in New Jersey. The awards include $2.6 million for New Jersey Transit to replace roofs at three bus garages in the Meadowlands, Greenville, and Wayne, and $1.2 million for Cape May County to build an operations center that will help consolidate and improve efficiency in paratransit service.
As the highest ranking Democrat on the Senate’s transit subcommittee, I am constantly working to win New Jersey the federal grants that can keep our transit systems up to date and serving the people who need it most,” stated Menendez in a release. “I’m proud of this win because maintaining our bus facilities in North Jersey and streamlining Cape May County Fare Free Transportation is essential to maintaining the safe and affordable transit operations that help New Jersyans thrive.”
“New Jersey’s transit systems serve as vital arteries for our entire region that are critical to keeping travelers and our economy moving,” stated Booker. “By making key federal investments in the modernization of our region’s aging infrastructure, we are taking important steps to boost job creation, bolster our economy, and strengthen New Jersey’s economic competitiveness.”
