COURT HOUSE – Freeholder Kristine Gabor announced April 16 that the Department of Aging and Disabilities Services is extending the deadline to submit nominations for Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year and Outstanding Organization of the Year. The new deadline to enter a special volunteer or organization that helps seniors in Cape May County is Fri., April 20.
The nominee must be a resident of Cape May County, be over the age of 60 and have contributed time to helping others. For Organization of the year, the organization must be made up of volunteers who have contributed to the community and can be made up of seniors helping any age group or a younger group helping seniors.
Any church group, municipality or non-profit organization is encouraged to submit their candidate’s name or the organization’s name, address and a short biography, listing their contributions to the community. Additionally, the name, address and phone number of the person submitting the nomination must be included.
The Department of Aging and Disabilities Services will present the “Senior Citizen of the Year” and “Organization of the Year” awards at the annual Senior Jamboree on Thur., May 3, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Avalon Community Center located at 30th & the Beach, Avalon, NJ. This year’s theme is “ALOHA”.
All nominations must be received by Fri., April 20, 2012. All nominations are to be mailed or delivered to Department of Aging and Disabilities Services, Social Services Building, 4005 Route 9, South, Rio Grande, N.J. 08242, Attention Carol Lennox.
