COURT HOUSE — On Aug. 30, 2013 graduation ceremonies for the Atlantic County Law Enforcement Academy will take place. The ceremony is being held at the Egg Harbor Township Community Center (5045 English Creek Avenue, Egg Harbor Township) from 1900 – 2100 hours. Explorers will be presented graduation certificates along with 7 special recognition awards. The special recognition includes academic, outstanding achievement, post leadership, espirit de corps and physical fitness awards.
Law Enforcement Exploring provides educational training programs for young adults on the purposes, mission, and objectives of law enforcement. The program provides career orientation experiences, leadership opportunities, and community service activities. The primary goals of the program are to help young adults choose a career path within law enforcement and to challenge them to become responsible citizens of their communities and the nation.
The Atlantic County Explorer Academy is a week-long program where youth (ages 14-21) participate in a simulated police academy experience. Explorers are exposed to Drill, PT, tours of local facilities including the county jail, and a variety of classroom instructional books. The event, in its 4th year, is a collaborative effort organized by leaders of the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Department Post #29, Egg Harbor Township Police Post #94, and Cape May County Sheriff’s Office Post #1692.
This year the academy began with 20 Explorers and expects to graduate 16. The group includes Explorers from Egg Harbor Township Post #94, Atlantic County Sheriff Post #29 and Cape May County Sheriff Post #1692.
