COURT HOUSE — July 9 County Clerk Rita Marie Fulginiti accepted delivery of five late 19th century/turn of the 20th century deed books which received professional conservation treatments from Kofile Preservation Services of Essex VT. Each page was carefully repaired and deacidified using proven archival techniques, then rebound by hand into new goatskin bindings. During the process the volumes were scanned and microfilmed for security. Deed Books 53-56 and 171 were recorded in the County Clerk’s Office by hand from Sept. 2, 1880 to Oct. 1, 1902.
“Their use for land title research over the last 100+ years has caused the bindings to come apart, especially those volumes with early New Jersey Riparian Grants as contained in Deed Book 171.” Fulginiti said.
The conservation of public records collections, including 34 Deed Books from the County Clerk’s Archives has been an ongoing project for the Clerk since 2006.
