COURT HOUSE – At a November Middle Township Committee meeting, homeless advocate Sam Kelly, of Swainton, rose during public comment to condemn what he called “unwarranted changes to the Code Blue policy that have no origin from the state.” Kelly spoke of changes in county policy that would, he argued, shift responsibility for Code Blue policy to municipalities and charitable organizations ill-equipped to handle the situation.
Kelly condemned the county government for “shirking its responsibilities” and called on the township to seek intervention from the Governor’s Office. Kelly wants the county to be “instructed to continue the vouchers while participating for a real alternative to be put in place.”
With Committeeman Timothy Donohue absent, Mayor Michael Clark and Deputy Mayor Jeff DeVico agreed to write the governor. When a letter concerning Code Blue policy would be sent was unclear, but Kelly offered to drive it to Trenton.
