COURT HOUSE – May 7: For a second consecutive day, the county announced double-digit growth in new COVID-19 cases. Today’s 15 new cases bring the total to 419 confirmed cases.
The county also reported a new fatality, an 80-year-old male resident of a long-term care facility, in Lower Township, passed away from COVID-19 complications.
Three additional individuals were removed from quarantine, bringing the number of recovered individuals to 192. There are 196 active cases, and there have been 31 total fatalities.
Of the 15 new cases, eight were located in Woodbine, with six of the eight associated with the Woodbine Developmental Center. Three new cases were in Upper Township, two in Lower Township, and one each in Dennis Township and Wildwood.
Today, Gov. Phil Murphy announced 1,827 new cases state-wide, along with 254 new fatalities. The state’s deaths due to COVID-19 now stand at 8,801. Total New Jersey cases confirmed are 133,535.
Murphy credited his stay-at-home order and closure of non-essential businesses with a leveling of the daily counts. He called the trend encouraging, but said it is too soon to ease more of the restrictions.
For the first time several weeks, hospitalizations dipped below 5,000 to 4,996. On April 14, hospitalizations stood at 8,270.
