STONE HARBOR – Plans for the police station expansion took a major step forward Dec. 5 when Stone Harbor Borough Council awarded a construction contract to Aliano Brothers General Construction, Inc. of Vineland. The contract was for $3,999,600. This does not include furnishings. Residents can expect the price to include another $200,000 or so for furnishings when the complex is completed.
The bid of Columbus Construction LLC of Philadelphia was approximately $140,000 less than the Aliano Brothers’ bid, but it included what was termed a “fatal flaw” since it failed to list a required subcontractor for HVAC work. That caused the firm’s bid to be disqualified.
Council member Raymond Parzych, Public Safety Committee chair, could not yet offer a tentative schedule for construction. Delays in the bidding process have impacted start dates. “We were supposed to begin construction in November,” he said.
