Council Considers Plans to Alter Boat Ramp

STONE HARBOR – Stone Harbor Borough Council is considering two alternative approaches to flood mitigation at the marina boat ramp on 80th Street.
One option is raising the elevation of the ramp by 1, or even up to 2, feet. The current elevation is 4.8 feet. An increase in the elevation would produce something that resembles a trapezoid. The ramp would have a higher slope up to a flat top and a steeper slope down into the water. Moving the ramp to another part of the marina might provide space for a more gradual slope.
The other option under consideration is the use of a floodgate that would depend on borough staff manually closing the gate in the face of any predicted high water.
