With a date with demolition looming for Cape May’s Convention Hall, the city sold a number of items from the building in an online auction called GovDeals.com
There were huge bargains to be had by clever bidders. Some items and their final selling price:
• Hardwood floor of Convention Center, 90 feet by 60 feet= $215
• Two sets of stage border lights=$255
• Two stage curtains, 44 feet in length=$120
• Windows and doors of Solarium=$510
• An 88-key baby grand piano on wheels with bench=$105
• Motorized 10 foot by 15 foot movie screen=$100
• Lot of six Carrier central air conditioning units=$85
• Convention Hall marquee sign=$105
• Ceiling tiles and lights=$69
Some items brought in higher prices such as the spinning disco ball from Convention Hall’s ceiling at $255. A lot of 333 brown, padded auditorium chairs with eight carts sold to the highest bidder at $1,556.
Like eBay, bidders could lose their item at the last minute. This reporter lost a chance to buy eight Fresnel spotlights for $50 when he was outbid by $10 during the final 20 seconds of the auction.
Purchasers of Convention Hall items have until March 26 to remove their buy from the building.
