COURT HOUSE – Middle Township Committee awarded a contract to a Connecticut firm to manage the administrative process associated with the third-party use of off-duty police officers.
Extra Duty Solutions serves 44 police departments in 11 states by absorbing the burden of administering the scheduling, invoicing and collection processes involved in the use of off-duty officers while allowing departments to implement their specific policies regarding off-duty assignments such as traffic management at a construction site.
The resolution awarding the contract stated that the company would keep 7.75 percent of fees collected, returning the remaining 92.25 percent to the township. The municipality’s ordinance covers the amount paid to the officer and the amount retained by the township to cover the use of municipal equipment such as a police car.
