CREST HAVEN – Among Cape May County employees granted salary increases by freeholders at the July 10 meeting were the County Clerk, Surrogate, and Sheriff, all elected Constitutional Officers. Also receiving a salary increase was the County Prosecutor.
Under provisions of Public Law 2018, Chapter 14 and Public Law 2001 Chapter 370, adjustments were made retroactive for all four to Jan. 1, 2018.
Sheriff Robert Nolan, Surrogate Dean Marcolongo and County Clerk Rita Fulginiti will each receive an annual salary of $112,450, effective July 1, 2018.
County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland, appointed to his post by Gov. Chris Christie, will receive $173,000 also effective July 1, 2018. The law pertaining to county prosecutors’ salaries was approved May 18, 2018, and took effect July 1, 2018.
From Jan. 1, 2009, county prosecutors received annual salaries of $165,000
“The annual salaries of county prosecutors shall be increased by $8,000 in the calendar year 2018 (hence the increase to $173,000).
After Jan. 1, 2021, and on every Jan. 1 for the next four years, those salaries will be adjusted yearly by the State Treasurer “in direct proportion to the percent change in the Consumer Price Index…”
The Constitutional Officers’ salaries are set at 65 percent of the salary of a judge of the Superior Court.
Salaries of Cape May County employees are routinely posted to the newspaper’s website following freeholders meetings, which are the second and fourth Tuesdays, at capemaycountyherald.com under Public Records, Government Salaries.
