Community Volunteer Honored Posthumously

By Press Release

SEA ISLE CITY – For forty years, Bob Lynch was a dedicated resident of Sea Isle City who cared deeply for the safety of his neighbors and their properties. Following his death in September, Mayor Leonard Desiderio proclaimed October 26, 2010 “Robert R. Lynch Day” in honor of the Town Watch/Town Pride volunteer.
Lynch, who was born in 1929 in Newark NJ, served in the National Guard during his younger days. He was also a graduate of both Seton Hall and New York Universities. After marrying his wife, Tonia, in 1952, the two raised six children while he continued his lengthy career in the insurance industry. Upon his retirement in 1983 from the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, where he was a senior vice-president of administration, Lynch and his wife moved full-time to the Sea Isle City summer-home they purchased in 1970. During his retirement years, he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at Saint Joseph Catholic Church and he was also involved with Sea Isle’s citizen safety awareness organization, Town Watch/Town Pride, where he was co-chairman and editor of the organization’s newsletter.
“Bob was a devoted and loving husband for 58 years, and he was a dedicated and attentive father and grandfather,” said Mayor Desiderio. “He was loved and admired by his family and friends and he made many contributions to our community. Bob is deeply missed – especially by the members of Town Watch/Town Pride and all of his friends in Sea Isle City.”
