STONE HARBOR – Outgoing Stone Harbor Business Administrator Jill Gougher presented a tentative schedule, in November 2019, for the construction of Beach Patrol Headquarters. At that Stone Harbor Borough Council meeting, Gougher was authorized to move ahead with the cumbersome permitting process.
Gougher’s projected schedule called for a detailed design to be completed by May, a June bid process and a July construction award. The schedule called for construction beginning after Labor Day 2020.
The aim was to have the building ready for use by Memorial Day 2021. The project also called for the replacement of the public restrooms on a site adjacent to the building.
Aside from progress on a temporary modular restroom facility for the site, council has yet to decide on the schedule for the project. The central issue seems to be whether the construction of a new building will go forward.
Discussion, at the Feb. 4 council meeting, introduced the potential use of a modular structure for the Beach Patrol. An additional possibility is to maintain the modular restroom facility, rather than move ahead with the construction of new restrooms.
The goal is to see if Beach Patrol needs can be met in a way that lowers the estimated cost of the $4.5 million project.
The matter was referred to the standing committee on Public Safety for further analysis.
