CREST HAVEN – Residents of Cape May County can sign up for immediate notifications direct from the county Office of Emergency Management via the new Code Red notification system.
Similar to emergency notification systems used by some municipalities to alert residents of states of emergency and other important matters, Code Red is free, and signup takes less than five minutes.
Freeholders approved the $98,596 purchase of the system from state contract for three years effective March 1, 2018, ending March 1, 2021.
Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton urged all residents to go onto the county website to enroll with their home telephone number as well as their cell phone number, “So the numbers will be in the system.”
While it may be a duplicate of what some municipalities do, he added: “The significant difference is that we declare emergencies for the entire county.”
