Co. Prosecutor Investigators Total 47, Economic Development Office Starts

CREST HAVEN – Crime’s price just got more costly for Cape May County taxpayers.
Responding to a Bigley Action from County Prosecutor Robert Taylor that demanded eight more investigators, Superior Court Assignment Judge Julio Mendez issued a consent order approving the increase.
The number of investigators, set by New Jersey Civil service Commission, is 47 from 39.
Freeholders approved a resolution April 12 that set the new number.
Economic Office Created
Seeking to bolster the county’s economy, the board created the Office of Economic Development “to help serve as a conduit between commercial economic interests …and county government.” Part-timer Carole Mattessich will staff the office, which will operate as a division of the Planning Department.
In other action at the same meeting the board:
Executed an interim lease agreement with Lower Township for use of its Public Safety Building at the County Airport, Erma. The Office of Emergency Management will relocate there to implement the first step toward countywide central dispatch for fire and rescue.
Approved a one-year memorandum of understanding with Lutheran Crossings Enhanced Living at Moorestown for storm evacuation relocation of residents of Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Approved aerial dispensing for mosquito control operations.
Accepted state funds in amount of $111,180 to provide “relief and support to family or other uncompensated care givers from the demands of daily care of the elderly, and other functionally-impaired adults.
Authorized County Health Department to enter an agreement until year end to fund family planning services to eligible residents.
Approved a $78,500 contract with CLR Design Inc. for design and construction of a small primate exhibit at the County Park Zoo.
Authorized a Historic Preservation Trust Fund grant to Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts and Humanities for repainting of Cape May Lighthouse, not to exceed $50,000.
