COURT HOUSE — At its first 2014 meeting, the Cape May County Fare Free Transportation Citizens Advisory Committee honored Florence Sambenedetto for her leadership while serving as Chairperson since 2011. Lisa D’Amico, Director of Fare Free, presented Florence with a special citation and flowers and thanked her for her dedication and service to the county.
Also at this meeting, new officers were elected to lead the Advisory Committee for the next two years. Maurice H. Hight of Erma was selected as Chairman, John Brikmeyer of Sea Isle City was named Vice-Chairman, Mary Ann Matthews-Mason was re-elected as Secretary, and Paulann Pierson from the County Department of Aging and Disability Services was elected Communication Representative.
Mr. Hight, the new Chairman, has previously served as Secretary and Vice-Chairman since his appointment to the Advisory Committee in 2007. A retired YMCA Executive, he has been active in many local organizations including the Lower Township Environmental Committee, the CMC Healthy Communities Coalition, the Center for Community Arts, the South Jersey Shore Chapter of Thrivent Financial and the Brynnwood Homeowners Association.
The role of the Advisory Committee is to advise the County Board of Freeholders on the distribution of available monies from the Senior Citizen and Disabled Resident Transportation Assistance Act; to advocate for better transportation services for seniors, individuals with disabilities, and transportation disadvantaged persons; and to advise the Fare Free staff on issues pertaining to the provision of proper, safe and effective quality transportation services for the above citizens.
