SEA ISLE CITY – Council member Mary Tighe queried Business Administrator George Savastano at Sea Isle City’s Council meeting Jan. 8 about several issues related to beach readiness.
“Are we going to have a full or partial smoking ban? And what is the status of Mobi-Mat placement and beach replenishment?” asked Tighe.
Savastano replied, “On the smoking ban, I received an email with some good suggestions, so, we will need to discuss. For the Mobi-Mats, we are anticipating we have enough in our budget and are planning to install a mat at the end of each street at the base of the dune and over the soft sand.
“Regarding the sand situation, there are some more serious concerns where the beach is thin. It doesn’t make sense to do any sand trucking before mid-May, until after storm season subsides, since, any sand we place will be vulnerable for washout. Our storm protection is good, although there are a few areas where beaches for recreational use are an issue.”
