City Presents Piece of History To Margaret Mace School

By Rachel Rogish

NORTH WILDWOOD – At the March 17 City Council meeting, Mayor Patrick Rosenello presented something special to Michael Buccialia, superintendent of Margaret Mace Elementary School.
Most likely, students and faculty alike look forward to spring break and the coming promise of summer, yet Margaret Mace welcomed back a piece of its history – a vital link between an institution of learning and its community.
Scott Jett, city clerk and historian for North Wildwood, found a resolution from 1923 in City Hall. The resolution “initiated the process for the purchase of the property on which Margaret Mace now stands.” Jett decided that the document “should be in the school’s possession.”
The resolution was framed and presented to Buccialia, forging another link between school and North Wildwood. According to the resolution, the entire block on Atlantic Avenue (between 12th and 13th avenues) was purchased from a Henry Ottens for $10,780. Margaret Mace opened its doors for the first students in 1925. The school, named in honor of Dr. Margaret Mace, has served families of North Wildwood for over 90 years.
Another step forward for North Wildwood came in council’s adoption of replacing bulkheads throughout the community in an effort to maintain and improve the city.
