City OKs Vol. Firefighter Stipend

NORTH WILDWOOD ─ City leaders passed an ordinance Nov. 8, providing for a stipend as an incentive for volunteer firefighters in North Wildwood Volunteer Company No. 1 and the Anglesea Volunteer Company No. 1. The aim was to ensure safety and increase incentives for joining. A memorandum of understanding complies with the Internal Revenue Service and Fair Labor Standards Act. The stipend will be included in the 2018 municipal budget. Specifics include annual stipend up to $4,800 with 65 percent of fire drills and mandatory training; $13 an hour to attend emergency preparedness and rescue related classes; a length of service award program, $1,150; clothing allotment, $200; city-issued parking permit; State Relief Association which includes death and hardship benefits up to $11,500; County Fireman’s Aid; volunteer tuition credit program; and volunteer emergency workers survivor’s pension.
