NORTH WILDWOOD ─ Commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Atlantic County Municipal Joint Insurance Fund (JIF) took center stage at the Feb. 7 City Council meeting.
Described as the “greatest example” of municipalities working together, by City Administrator Kevin Yecco, JIF has saved residents in taxes and awarded North Wildwood over $1 million dividends.
According to City Clerk Scott Jett, being a part of the JIF is a “pleasure” and a “magnificent entity” of which to be a part.
By joining municipalities in Atlantic County and beyond, the city has increased its savings and retained funds in the city’s “coffers.”
“I can’t believe the JIF is 30,” Councilman Edwin Koehler commented, and Yecco concurred with Koehler’s sentiments.
An ordinance was passed that amends fees for renting Public Works equipment.
An “off-island vehicle repair and inspection” contract was renewed with David Greenland.
Joseph Quattrone will once again serve as the city’s “entertainment/events coordinator,” the contract was not to exceed $17,000, the same amount as in 2016.
A contract was also awarded TRIAD Associates for Americans with Disabilities Act compliant improvements on the Boardwalk. The improvements will be made at 15th Avenue.
Construction work on Windsor Avenue will also encompass the reconstruction of the parking lot at St. Demetrios Church as explained by Solicitor William Kaufmann.
Kaufmann wished the minutes to reflect that the parking lot reconstruction is in conjunction with a larger project and is not “crossing the line between church and state.”
During council comment, recognition of the JIF 30th anniversary then highlighted the ongoing savings accrued by the city on behalf of its residents and taxpayers.
Jett also announced that, at no cost to the city, he obtained over 2,400 digital pictures from Richard Dietz, about the history of Anglesea and North Wildwood.
Three new historical markers are also pending installation. “A lot of exciting things coming up,” said Jett.
