SEA ISLE CITY – This resort’s City Council met Nov. 15, one week later than usual due to Election Day.
Business Administrator George Savastano informed the council that he has been unsuccessfully attempting to get in contact with Uber officials to discuss the city’s ordinance that prohibits Uber drivers from operating in the city legally.
Savastano stated that the state legislator is working on creating a state statute that would regulate Uber services statewide. He recommended to council to put on hold any consideration of changing the city’s current ordinance while the state works on new regulations for this industry. He expects that the state will have enacted a state statute by February or March.
Capital Plan
The city administration is now finalizing a draft of the five-year capital plan following the public council workshop held on Oct. 25.
“Once the draft capital plan is reviewed by city council, we expect it will be adopted in December,” continued Savastano.
Master Plan
“Following more than 18 months of hard work, our master plan re-examination process is nearing completion,” said Savastano. “The most recent draft of the master plan re-examination report is now available on the homepage of Sea Isle’s municipal website.
“The Sea Isle City Planning Board is expected to review and possibly adopt the latest draft during its December meeting. For more information about this process, read the master plan re-examination section on the city’s website.”
Budget
Savastano reported that during the so-called “quieter off season” municipal employees “are carefully and meticulously planning for the year ahead. Part of that effort includes creating a fiscal budget for the coming year. Each city department head will present their budgetary requests to the office of Mayor Leonard Desiderio and then he will officially present the budget to city council after the New Year.
“At that point, the council will review the budget, schedule public budget workshops, and ultimately introduce and adopt the new budget during a regular city council meeting in the first quarter of 2017.”
Veterans Day
It was reported that Sea Isle City’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony which took place at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the resort’s Veterans’ Park was a moving event with Desiderio, city council and others from the community honoring all of the nation’s military veterans. A special presentation from the South Shore Stitchers recognized several local veterans with handmade ‘Quilts of Honor.’
Other Business
Committee reviewed and approved a number of consent agenda items of a routine nature, including a resolution authorizing the award of a contract for utility reconstruction at 38th Street and Central Avenue to Kneass Street to RTW Construction in the amount of $272,992.
Council considered an ordinance on introduction and first reading that addresses architectural options for new construction properties being built on corner lots. The ordinance which amends a chapter of the general city ordinances entitled “Encroachments” reflects changes allowing setback encroachments for certain architectural features, commonly referred to as “bump-outs” so that they would be allowed on corner lots.
Without public comment, the ordinance was adopted. Second reading will be at the next committee meeting Dec. 13.
