City Collects 38 Pounds of Cigarette Butts

North Wildwood enjoys the results of installing cigarette-butt receptacles.

By Rachel Rogish

NORTH WILDWOOD – City Administrator Ronald Simone reported that 38 pounds of cigarette butts were collected and recycled.
Stainless steel receptacles were installed in May and June along city beaches and Boardwalk areas as part of the no-smoking policy.
For every one pound of material recycled by the municipality, $1 is donated towards the Keep America Beautiful Cigarette Litter Prevention Program, according to Simone.
The receptacles pose no cost to taxpayers “as it is 100% grant-funded thanks to Sustainable Jersey and the PSEG Foundation,” said Simone. The grant totaled $10,000.
