NORTH WILDWOOD – “The shared court is yet another in a multitude of shared services agreements that exist between the governments of the Wildwoods,” Mayor Patrick Rosenello told the Herald Sept. 7 in a prepared statement.
Seeking more savings for city taxpayers, North Wildwood officials have reached an agreement to share municipal court services with the Borough of Wildwood Crest.
The initiative was spearheaded by North Wildwood City Administrator Kevin Yecco and Administrative Assistant Ronald Simone.
“This agreement will join agreements that provide tax assessment, construction, zoning and tourism management as yet another cost-saving measure enacted by North Wildwood for the benefit of our taxpayers,” Rosenello said.
Municipal Judge Louis J. Belasco serves both municipalities, and both the Crest and North Wildwood will share the court administrator, court clerk, and deputy.
Wildwood Crest Mayor Don Cabrera told the Herald Sept. 6 that the borough “is happy” to share these services, providing savings for both municipalities and fostering cooperation between island communities.
According to Borough Administrator Constance Mahon, “The total cost savings incurred by entering into the shared court agreement with North Wildwood will be approximately $95,000.”
“Considering the ongoing state-imposed costs and annual employment costs for one day of court in Wildwood Crest, it’s simply a matter of streamlining an operation, so both municipalities save money,” Cabrera said.
Wildwood Crest Court Administrator Angela DeRitis will serve both municipalities.
By sharing professional services with other island communities, North Wildwood residents save money in taxes and a spirit of cooperation strengthens ties between municipalities along Five Mile Beach.
