CAPE MAY — The Coast Guard terminated the voyage of the scallop boat Jessica J. on Oct. 22 in Cape May Harbor, for failing to meet safety regulation requirements during a Coast Guard boarding.
According to a release, the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Finback, homeported here, was on patrol in the harbor when crewmembers sighted the fishing boat Jessica J. The crew of the cutter launched a smallboat team and boarded the 64-foot boat.
The boarding team noted apparent violations of primary lifesaving gear requirements, crewmember certifications, and fishing gear.
The Coast Guard terminated Jessica J.’s fishing voyage due to the violations, and the crew of the Jessica J returned to their homeport here.
