Celebration of National Historic Preservation Month Highlighted by Photo Contest

By Press Release

WASHINGTON – In recognition of National Historic Preservation Month in May, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP), National Park Service, and National Trust for Historic Preservation on April 27 announced a photo contest inviting people to enter by sharing photos they have taken of themselves, family, and friends on their own social media sites and using the hashtag #MyHistoricPlace.
“The ACHP works every day to raise awareness of the benefits of historic preservation and show that historic places are everywhere, in every community for the American people to enjoy, whether they are historic districts, national or local landmarks, or sacred sites,” stated ACHP Chairman Milford Wayne Donaldson FAIA.
“We encourage everyone to share photos of the historic places they love. These sites allow visitors an awareness of building a greater national public preservation ethic to bring the many benefits of our nation’s heritage to more Americans, especially to young people who benefit most from being aware of their connections to our collective stories.”
To enter the photo contest, people may post a photo using the hashtag #MyHistoricPlace on their Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram feeds. They must tag the ACHP @USACHP, the National Park Service @NPSCLP (Instagram), @NationalRegisterNPS (Facebook), @NPSParkCLP (Twitter), and the National Trust for Historic Preservation @savingplaces, and also include a brief caption that includes the name and location of the historic place.
The contest begins May 1. A gallery of photos will be posted at https://woobox.com/ugw53r or click on “Campaigns” on the ACHP Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/usachp/. Full details about the contest and where to vote also will be available on the ACHP website, www.achp.gov.
People may cast one vote per week to select that week’s winner. The weekly winner will be announced each Tuesday in May on the ACHP’s social media sites. The winners will receive a historic preservation prize package.
