Jenny Carleo

By Erin Ledwon

CREST HAVEN – Freeholders recognized Jenny Carleo, county agent, Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County, April 23. Her last day in that position was April 24.
Carleo “is very much appreciated by the agricultural community,” said Freeholder Will Morey. “I know that they’re really appreciative as are we of your dedication to the agricultural community in Cape May County.”
Carleo has been the agricultural agent for 13 years.
“Working for the state, I get to see all the different counties and how the support is in the different areas,” said Carleo, “And Cape May County has, I think, the best freeholder board and the best support for Rutgers Cooperative Extension of the local counties.”
Atlantic Cape Community College Month
April 2019 was designated Atlantic Cape Community College Month by resolution. A copy was presented to Dr. Barbara Gaba, president, Atlantic Cape.
Across the nation, April is deemed Community College Month, Gaba told freeholders. “We are trying to promote the awareness of the value of community colleges for people to get started on your path to either a four-year college or to do some kind of workforce training and go into a career.
“We are very established in the community, and we take our name Atlantic Cape Community College very seriously,” Gaba continued.
She expressed appreciation for the support received from Cape May County.
“We’re very proud of our community college,” said Thornton.
In other actions, the board:
* Recognized dispatchers who handled the 911 calls for the house fire Feb. 10 in Marmora. Stephanie Cox, and father, James Cox, were also recognized for “your heroic acts where you selflessly and with great courage came to the assistance of fellow residents facing a life and death situation,” said Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton. “The board of chosen freeholders wishes to thank you for your quick thinking and courageous response, which certainly prevented a dangerous situation from becoming a tragedy and saved the lives of two occupants of a fully engulfed second-floor apartment.”
* Congratulated Kathleen DeGenova, 15, of Dennis Township, and Lily Capone, 12, of Sea Isle City, for qualifying for the Interscholastic Equestrian Association Nationals, which were held April 26-28.
* Appointed Donna Doyle as deputy clerk of the board.
* Authorized the use of competitive contracting for branding and marketing services for Cape May County Airport. The resolution noted “the awarding of the contract is contingent upon the county and Delaware River and Bay Authority executing a shared services agreement for equal shares of the cost for these services.”
* Authorized modification No. 1 in the amount of $123,000 to the professional engineering services agreement with Remington and Vernick Engineers, Inc. for Ocean Drive Bridge over Townsend’s Inlet spans 1-7 replacement. The scope of work was increased “for underwater inspection associated with the installation of the submarine cable at Townsend’s Inlet Bridge and Grassy Sound Bridge,” per the resolution.
