ATLANTIC CITY — Capt. James Hubbard, commanding officer of Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City retired Aug.17 following a change-of-command ceremony held here.
Hubbard, an Egg Harbor Township resident, retired after more than 26 years of service.
Hubbard was relieved of his position by Coast Guard Capt. Paul Ratte during a change-of-command ceremony, at Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City.
Hubbard graduated from the Coast Guard Academy as a commissioned officer in 1981, and during his career served aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Morgenthau, Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington,.D.C., and Air Stations Detroit, Cape May, Atlantic City, Miami and Borinquen, Puerto Rico.
Hubbard earned a Bachelor of Science from the Coast Guard Academy and later earned two Master’s of Science degrees (with honors) from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with studies in Management and Aeronautical Science in 1997 and 1998, respectively. In 2004, Hubbard completed a third Master’s of Science degree in Strategic Studies from the Air War College. Currently, Hubbard is completing his final year of a Doctorate of Management degree from the University of Phoenix.
Hubbard’s awards include two Meritorious Service Medals, two Air Medals, three Commendation Medals, four Achievement medals, three Letters of Commendation ribbons, four Meritorious Team Commendations, a Department of Transportation Superior Achievement Medal, and numerous other personal and unit awards. He was twice the recipient of the Pilot of the Year and Aircrew of the Year Awards.
