CAPE MAY – It has come to the Cape May Police Department’s attention that there is a viral internet game called “The Momo Challenge” gaining popularity and they wanted parents to be aware of it.
According to the department’s Facebook page, “Her name is ‘Momo’ and she is the face of a viral internet game, believed to be spreading via the free messaging service WhatsApp. This challenge is sparking worldwide warnings about its potential to harm young people who may be lured into playing.
“After phone users are enticed to contact ‘Momo’ they receive graphic threats from the user and are instructed to perform a series of dangerous tasks.
“In addition to WhatsApp, the ‘Momo Challenge’ has been linked to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.”
The department urges parents to talk with their children about internet and app safety.
