Cape May Ex-Mayor to Consult for Avalon

By Vince Conti

AVALON – Dr. Edward Mahaney left as mayor of Cape May after the election of Mayor Clarence Lear in November 2016. Mahaney decided to put his years of municipal government experience to use as an advisor to local governments. He formed Mahaney Consulting LLC.
On Dec. 10, Avalon awarded a professional services contract to Mahaney for an amount not to exceed $18,225 for the year 2018.
During Mahaney’s term as Cape May mayor, he was successful in directing efforts that secured millions of dollars in grants to the city. According to Avalon Business Administrator Scott Wahl, that is one of the areas of expertise the borough wants to tap. Wahl said there are numerous grant opportunities that Mahaney may help the borough compete for on an as-needed basis.
The resolution awarding Mahaney the contract states that he will be involved in grant funding advisory and consulting services including preparation, application, and submission of grant materials.
