COURT HOUSE – Freeholder Vice-Director Leonard Desiderio announced that Cape May County Fare Free Transportation drivers are continuing their winning ways and setting records in the process. Cape May County drivers will represent the State of New Jersey for the fifth year in a row at the National Roadeo after winning on the state level.
Lower Township’s Dave Smith became the only five time consecutive champion in the 27 year history of the state’s roadeo event held in Great Adventure on April 30th. Cape May’s Brian Fitzpatrick placed second in state competition and will join Smith at the Nationals in June as he has done for the last four years.
Also, Lower Township’s Adele Jones, a past national contestant, placed fourth again this year in the state competition that pits Community Transportation operators from all over New Jersey against each other, in challenges of the jobs they do every day – vehicle pre-trip, passenger securement, service and safety, driving skills and knowledge of federal, state and local laws.
Freeholder Desiderio is pleased that passengers of the Fare Free system can ride at ease. “Passenger safety is our number one concern. I am happy to report that Cape May County Fare Free drivers continue to show that we are the best in the state at what we do each day.”
Fare Free Director Colleen Somers added, “I am proud of both our winning drivers and all Fare Free employees who work together each day in the best interest of our riders’ safety. Our safety and training program has not been matched by any other curriculum in the state.”
Freeholder Desiderio concluded, “We look forward to Nationals when the talent and dedication of our drivers will once again prove them to be among the best of the best in America.”
