COURT HOUSE — Winners of Cape May County’s “Roadeo” held on April 12 at the Cape May County Airport have been announced. Thirty eight Fare Free drivers participated at the annual spring training day dubbed the “Roadeo”.
Fare Free Transportation Director Colleen Somers thanked the community transportation agency’s drivers and judges for enduring and overcoming another day of blustery weather for this year’s training event. “It seems we always ask our operators to compete against not only each other, but Mother Nature as well,” Somers said.
The local roadeo modeled after state and national competitions, tested drivers in their everyday activities including; Vehicle Pre-trip, Wheelchair Securement and an Obstacle Course, testing driving skills. Participants were also subjected to a written exam evaluating their knowledge of Federal ADA regulations, rules of the road and passenger service standards.
Noting that Tuesday’s winners will go on to compete at the state level, Freeholder Desiderio said, “Fare Free drivers have proven themselves to be the best of the best at what they do.” Somers added that she is; “…extraordinarily proud of all Fare Free employees and the job they do every day. Cape May County is well served by the hard work of a dedicated and well trained staff.”
