Cape May Advises Residents on Leaf Collection and Recycling

CAPE MAY – The City of Cape May released the following public service announcement regarding leaf collection and recycling:
– Leaves, grass clippings, yard waste, and Christmas trees are recyclable and are not to be co-mingled with trash.
– Leaves and grass clippings shall be collected between April 15 and Dec. 31, one time per week on regularly scheduled recycling days.
– Leaves and grass clippings shall be collected in marked reusable containers or compostable paper bags.
– Containers must be placed curbside no earlier than 6 p.m. the day prior to collection and no later than 7 a.m. the day of collection. Containers must be removed as soon as possible after collection. Containers must be placed so as not to block or encumber any drain/drainage ditch, storm water flows, or any public access way.
– Leaves, grass clippings, yard waste, and Christmas trees may also, appropriately bagged, be taken to the central recycling station (no tree stumps) and placed in appropriate dumpsters (no trash bags permitted in dumpsters).
– Residents may choose to compost leaves, grass clippings, and yard waste generated on their premises. Information on composting is available by calling the Dept. of Public Works.
