DENNISVILLE – Dennis Township Committee met Aug. 18. On the consent agenda were three items: authorization of a special bingo license for the township Senior Citizen Association; award of a quote to furnish labor and material to construct a beam guide rail on Hagen Road; and authorization of a shared services agreement with the county to participate in its 2015 road repairs contract.
While there were no questions or comments from the public, Committee member Albert DiCicco asked township Engineer Jack Gibson, “what does the shared service agreement entail?” Gibson replied that the agreement in this case allows the township to participate in the county’s negotiated contract thereby saving time and money because of the greater volume.
“The amount of $71,000 is already provided for under the township’s bond ordinance, we’ll only pay for the actual extent of the milling and paving that occurs which will encompass Evergreen Drive in Belleplain and a few other townships streets,” said Gibson. “We expect this work to start late September or early October and be finished within 12 months.”
‘Night Out’ Huge Success
Deputy Mayor Brian O’Connor said that multiple organizations joined together to ensure the success of the township’s National Night Out Aug. 4. “I’d like to recognize the Dennis Recreation Department and Public Works and most especially the Woodbine State Police Barracks for their extraordinary support.  Their Blue and Gold Fighting Drum Corps and K-9 demonstration were a huge hit. This is not an easy project but everyone pulling together made it successful and all in the community had a terrific time.”
Campfire Smoke Complaint
During the public comment period, a resident asked what she should do regarding the frequently overwhelming smoke emanating from campfires at nearby campgrounds.
“Is the EPA monitoring these campfires?” she queried. “There are days when you can’t even open the windows and you can’t even breathe if you go outside because of the thick, black clouds of smoke.”
O’Connor responded, “Please let the county Health Department know about this and we will help you connect with them if you’d like.”
Board of Health Report
Prior to the committee meeting, members approved the regular township Board of Health report. No notice of confinement of any domestic animal with known or suspected exposure to rabies was reported.
There were two reports of unlicensed dogs both of which were addressed.
